A simple Mason jar housing an small A. versicolor. The
screen top is cut from metal sheets used to cover frying pans to keep
splattering fat from burning you. The screen metal can be purchased at most
stores and found next to your frying pans. I used a permanent marker to
trace the shape and used an old pair of scissors to cut the metal sheet (it’s
much softer than you’d think).
Simple old biscuit jar housing a baby T. Blondi. The
small water dish runs around $0.30 at some Chinese food stores. Deep substrate
allows burrowing as Goliath Bird Eaters sometimes do. Notice the holes on
sides of jar to allow “up welling” airflow.
“Shoe boxes” made by Sterilite housing a group of adult
B. Smithi. These can be purchased at Wal-Mart for $1.50 ea. Comes with a
flip-top and available in a few different colors.
And the classic deli cup. These can be bought pre-hold
punched from some on-line sources but they usually require bulk purchase. I
bought these at “Smart and Final,” a store mostly dedicated to supplying
businesses and corporations, at $6 for 25 cups and 50 lids. This one is
pretty big (imagine a big gulp) but they have them in a variety of shapes
and sizes. That’s all for now—more later.
